Self-Driving Uber Car Kills Arizona Pedestrian

According to sources, Tempe police say a woman is dead after she was struck by a self-driving Uber car on Mill Avenue.

The Uber vehicle was in autonomous mode with a human safety driver at the wheel when it struck the woman, who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, the Tempe police said in a statement.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

The incident has caused the company to pause all testing of self-driving vehicles in cities across the country.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi wrote on Twitter, "Some incredibly sad news out of Arizona. We’re thinking of the victim’s family as we work with local law enforcement to understand what happened."
