San Francisco fifth grader Niall McDermott wanted to honor his grandfather. He had recently watched the movie "Iron Cowboy" about a man who competed in 50 triathlons in 50 days. The movie inspired him to do 50 5Ks in 50 days to raise money for his grandpa who is battling lung cancer.
His pediatrician gave him the thumbs up to do it and his parents told him he could quit anytime he wanted, but he never did. He ran 50 5Ks in 50 days raising $4,000 in the process. He donated the money to Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation in honor of his grandfather. His mother Maggie McDermott told San Francisco CBS affiliate,
âHe never complained a single day, said he didnât want to do it, or heâs too tired or something hurt. He was just ready to go every day. Iâm amazed. Iâve never really known a kid to do something like this, personally. Iâm proud to be his mom."
